Agatha Gutierrez

  • Graduate Student

Hello! My name is Agatha. Before joining the department of Philosophy as a graduate student in the fall of 2023, I obtained my B.A.s in history of ideas and philosophy from William Jewell College.

My primary philosophical focus is ethics, especially moral psychology. I pursue this line of inquiry through ancient philosophy (in particular, Plato and Aristotle) and feminist philosophy. Specifically, I am interested in the impact of different sorts of caring relationships on the development of our characters and, more broadly, on our capacity to act autonomously. I am also keen on peace studies, which analyze the causes, effects, and potential remedies to international and civil conflicts. Finally, as a more frivolous academic interest, I take great pleasure in reading about the lives of nuns and important religious figures like Margery Kempe and St. Augustine.

Outside of my academic pursuits, I enjoy knitting, watching old gothic horror movies, hanging out with my best friend Benjamin, and reading. My pronouns are he/him.
