Sage Rhys
- Graduate Student
At the moment, my biggest interests are (subject to change) in the philosophy of language and linguistics, particularly:
-
changes to the lexicon, especially neologisms,
-
conditions for linguistic knowledge,
-
dictionaries,
-
words and phrases with multiple meanings (polysemy, ambiguity, and vagueness),
-
mutual intelligibility,
-
the historical development of syntactic and semantic theory,
-
intuitions in linguistics,
-
non-literal speech.
I also have some interests in political philosophy, particularly in:
-
non-egalitarian conceptions of justice,
-
the use of values in public deliberation,
-
cosmopolitanism.
Outside of philosophy, I collect and DJ trance music.
Prior to joining Pitt in the fall of 2023, I taught math and science to high school students in Boston. I received my BA in Philosophy from Swarthmore College in 2022. Originally, I am from Dallas, TX.
