Colloquium: Caspar Hare (MIT)

October 18, 2019 -
3:30pm to 5:30pm

Title:  "Hindsight and the Great Yes"

Abstract: The broad topic of this talk is whether big, prima-facie strange ideas in physics, cosmology and metaphysics matter. Do they have implications about what we should believe about common-or-garden things not obviously having to do with physics, cosmology and metaphysics? Do they have implications about what we should want and do in common-or-garden contexts?

The narrow topic of this talk is the relation between chaos theory and rational regret. The world is chaotic. Does that tell us anything about what to regret, and how to regret? I say it does.
